Replacement of Swing Door Operators Help University Meet Code

PROBLEM

Nearing the end of project completion, the customer was unable to get approved for occupancy due to a failed smoke evacuation test. The existing swing operators failed to hold open during testing because of massive amounts of air being sucked into the building due to the smoke evacuation system. When the doors closed, the system would shut the fans down and stop the smoke evacuation thus causing the building to not meet fire and smoke codes.

SOLUTION

We installed eight heavy-duty surface mounted swing door operators with battery backup units that met building code requirements. The customer passed the next smoke evacuation test with the state and could turn the building over to the university.
